My wife's daughter has a online boutique and is having a pop-up shop event this week in a local contemporary art museum. She has asked me to take shots for a couple hours Tuesday night. About 99.9% of my experience has been nature landscape, so I'm a little concerned about the kinds of things I should capture. I'm sure she has some thoughts on the matter but asking the forum for ideas, as well, seems like a good idea. Additionally, since she may use some of the pictures in her online blog, should we be getting permission from subjects to use the photos? Thanks in advance.

Think about the lighting, walk the setting before hand to pre-plan your shots, but most of all listen to your client. You may need to ignore certain requests, but listen.

Thanks. The biggest issue is light. It will be late afternoon with a lot of light flowing into the space creating a lot of shadows and bright light spots. As for client expectations, she is likely to say something like "just grab some shots." Do I need a release from anyone who has the misfortune (?) of being photographed?

Not unless you are using that image to sell a product or service.
