Is it better to store the scope in a conditioned area of your home or would I be better off storing it in an unconditioned garage?

I use to keep my scope in the house, i found it to much to carry the scope back and fore and the steps. So i got a shed then i placed plastic sheeting on the floor then under lay then carpet on top to keep out the dumb.Which is working well it is always dry inside the shed for the scope.Plus 2 locks on the door and my 8 stone Mastiff just in case :) .Mark

Plus, this decreases the cool down time...I would assume.

Hey Eugene,

I have always kept my scopes inside the house, in my office. I would never store one outside without humidity and temperature control. The dust that may build up on a reflector or dob is okay and it does not hurt the image.

After a while, a few years however, you might want to take your mirror off and RINSE (not scrub) it off with some pure water.

Scopes I have stored in the garage have suffered from mold and mildew.

Just my thoughts.

And your thoughts are appreciated. I think you just talked me into leaving my scope in the living room. My current scope is a 4.7 inch refractor.
