Hi everyone, I'm new to taking pictures. I had a cannon SI1200 little hand held that I was tired of and wanted something I could afford and take better pictures, so I had bought about a year ago a Nikon D3100. Thus far I really take pics of anything that sparks my eye. I would love to learn more of the technical aspsects of taking a great picture. yeah I can change my settings on the camera based off what I learned on the screen but I don't really truly know why i'm doing it. I hope to learn and also get some nice pointers :) thus far seems to be a great place.

Just stay tuned to the HOG. You will learn. Welcome to the HOG. It just takes a lot of practice. As you stated, keep shooting and making corrections. You will learn your camera settings(ISO, shutter, aperture etc). What lenses do you have?

Thanks CrispColors. I have the default lenses the 18-55mm. I am looking though to get the 70-200mm one. I'm not sure yet that's another thing I'm researching. It seems the D3100 has the motor off the body so the lensed for autofocus have to be in the lenses something like that.

HI ER...Welcome to the hog. The best way i know of to learn, is by asking lots of questions. That is what we are all about. The first shot, of the eye is excellent. Nice and crisp and in focus. Good shot. You are well on your way.
