Here is a photo I made today. I call it "a summers day". It is all natural, I only cropped it. Looking more like an old impressionest painting than a photo. Guess how I did it. Then I'll tell you later.

Very interesting effect, and I'll bet it was fun to do. My guess would be saran wrap or something like it infront of the lens

Looks like a painting, I'll be interested in finding out how you achieved this.

Remember, no trickery. All natural.
How its done: the people are about 300 yards away from the camera. I used an old 400mm lens with a 2x teleconverter. The effect is from solar heat waves coming off the ground on an 80 degree day. Shooting through that distance and a lot of heat.

Yes I did. I went out to do some test photos with an old 400mm lens with a 2x teleconverter. I was setting up to do some infinity shots down the trail. I seen the heat waves and was packing up to go because I knew it was too hot.
Then I thought, what's that look like through the lens? I focused at some people 300 yards out and seen the heat wave effect and wanted to capture it.
And did.

Great job!

Just think you almost didn't take that photo.

I don't think I have seen heat rising up like that on an 80-degree day....maybe 108-degree day.
