Need a loan for new photography equipment? Don't look here...

Look at those rates. And they even have the nerve to charge you a high loan fee.

A $10,000 loan for 7 years will have you paying back $62,453.16.

I think it more like Indians scalping the white man without a knife. I think its funny the white man screwed the Indian for their intire history and now there paying us back with casinos and loans like this and there is nothing that can be done as long as they stay within their laws

I've been seeing these commercials for over a year now. Awhile ago, I paused my TV so I could read the fine print and I did the math. A $5K loan was gonna cost you just over $40K.

Now with your posted image I see that their loans are not available to residents of California. They sure show a lot of these commercials here when we can't even get them.

Oh darn.

In reality, these loans are only legal for those living on the reservations. The problem is they are marketed elsewhere. I'm sure they have made loans to people in states that they have listed and not being able to legally. Most tribes in the United States have what is called 'sovereign immunity'. This prevents people from suing them. You need to go through the tribal court system and many times that is a joke.

The web is full of complaints about them and their practices. Their justification/defense is that they let you know right out front that the loans are not cheap. One of their practices is that they sell the loan debt to another company almost immediately after giving the loan.

My concern over all this is that one of the projects the non-profit company I work for is trying to get done is the establishment of a local credit union. There are already enough rules and regulations to follow and who knows what additional red tape the government will come up with to protect us from organizations like Western Sky. Whatever happened to common sense?

We have similar in the UK. A few decades ago they were called loan sharks and barely worked within the law.
Now - with a name and image change and posh TV adverts - it is still just legal but they have the courts behind them for defaulters instead of a couple of 'heavies' with baseball bats and knuckle-dusters!

Pay Day loans are just about as bad and are not regulated by the state.

But look at how the rates fall as the principle goes up. If you borrow a million it's probably at prime :-)
