That's a cross-bow tensioning gauge used in the 1300s by Norse invaders into northern Ireland. One of my ump-teenth great grandfathers, a decedent of one of the sons of King David 1st, of Scotland, had one of these devices acquired as plunder when the Norse invaders were driven back into the North Sea. The Norse invaders all drowned, of course, because they were wearing their armor coats of mail, which were actually riveted mail and plate coats of zirah bagtar. Alas, a tragic end for the Norsemen, but fortunately for me, my ancestors survived.

Looks like a specialty tool. Does it have a logo or markings on the other side?

No, no markings other than what are visible. It was found in a drawer of an old treadle sewing machine, so I'm guessing it is an attachment of some kind......maybe?

LOL... Lmarc, I do believe I like your explanation more better than mine. A better mental image, for sure. Space aliens breathing nerve gas is one tough act to follow. Keep 'em coming.

It looks like the tool my Mom had on her old Singer sewing machine to make adjustments to the machine and to change out the different "foot". (The little piece that sits on top of the material when you are sewing to guide it through). Hope this makes sense.

Sounds good to me. And with what you just said, I'm pretty certain now that it went with the machine.

Thanks!!

Yeah, I'd go with some sort sewing machine attachment/tool too. But really... Looks like some sort of torture devise.

i agree with one of those chains with the little beads and you "snap" it together, I seen them as necklaces, to hold keys, on zippers to hold the brand tag etc..

Is that one of those old hair pulling machines? Women would use them to pull the hair out of their legs instead of shaving so their legs would be smoother longer.

I wish I would have known about one of those kinds of machines that pulls the hairs out of women's legs. It would without a doubt have salvaged the marriage to the first of my first three ex-wives, and then I wouldn't have had to worry about the last two ex-wives, because I'd never have had to divorce my first ex-wife. I know... it does sound rather crass and complicated. But just think how much simpler life would have been if only I'd had one of those machines.
