I'm purchasing a new camera soon and wanted to know what you guys would recommend. My main focus is portrait photography. Cost isn't an issue. I've been saving for awhile. I would aslo like to upgrade my editting program. Any sugesstions?
Since money is no object, Nikon D7000 with a lens that has an 80mm to 100mm focal length on it, whether it's a fixed length lens or a Nikon zoom. The best and most complex editing program is PhotoShop CS5 Extended. It's expensive, unless you are a student or teacher and can take advantage of Adobe's student pricing, but there's nothing like it. Save enough to get yourself some lights and reflectors though...they are at least as important as the camera.
If cost is not an issue, you should be able to get a great camera body to use to take portraits. The Canon 5D Mark ii is a great selection not only based on the price and I know that is not a consideration, it can be purchased for under $2,400, today's price at B&H is $2,219. I would purchase an 85mm 1.8 lens, a 50mm 1.2 lens or price not being a consideration the 50 mm 1.2 lens, I would also purchase the 70-200 mm 2.8 version II lens.
I also have a Sony SLT AV 55 camera that take great images.
I have no experience with Nikon bodies I think you will find comparative camera bodies with the Canon series.
If price is really not a consideration look at the Hasselblad HD40 with the 80 mm lens.
If you wish to compare camera bodies and or lenses a great place to visit is
www.dpreview.com, you can compare bodies from various manufacturers as well as lenses side by side on their site.
Nikon has a great page on it's website where you can view lenses in a lens simulator and see what view a lens would look like on a camera, although it deals with Nikon lenses you can find that the view is adaptable to most any camera body and lens across the usual suspect camera lines Canon, Nikon etc.
