Has anyone seen or photographed a Luna Moth recently. It was one of my favorites and one of the most beautiful insects i had ever seen when I was younger, and now I'm realizing I haven't seen one in umpteen years. I miss them!

Don't happen to have a picture right now but just google it. They are pale green, almost a ghostly color, and quite large. I'd see them hovering around the streetlights at night.

I just photographed several of them in north of Grand Marais MN. They were sitting on the buildings so they are not the most romantic shots. First ones I have ever seen in my life. Always wanted to catch one as a kid

Had one in my yard a couple of years ago. I got a VERY bad shot of it. They blend in so well with green leaves it's hard to spot them. You're right they are beautiful. It would be nice to get a good shot.

I had one on the outside of my window this year. It disappeared when I went out with the camera.

I saw one in Norwich Vermont around 1975. It was unbelievable. It was attached to a window late at night attacked by the light. I actually captured it but decided to let it go, too beautiful to keep.
Kodak had a book on macro photography with a Luna moth on the cover. I hade the book but never realized what the picture was. The real thing was far beyond what the photo captured.
I now live in a rural area in NH. I have never seen another one.

I've seen only two in my entire life, one on a hibiscus in a nursery, and a second one last year, inside my clinic! Put that one outdoors in the grass, hoping he might survive. Had only a cell phone, so poor quality shot, but was thrilled to see him at all. I'd estimate his length at about five inches.

You're welcome! I can understand why you miss them. They are stunning! A couple more with a bonus from your caption. The luna inside got caught in 2 storms in one day. I pulled it out of 2 puddles and finally put it inside. It started flapped its wings inside after a day so I released it outside and away it went. The song of a catbird is awesome!!!

Thanks for the new pics, Big Guy. Love them! And the catbird, my favorite bird. We have a few of them in our yard. They are very friendly, and let us know when the feeders are empty! I love their red rump! I actually mean rear underside! Have to have my nomenclature correct.

I used to see them always as a kid in NJ, haven't seen one in years, I did however just 2 days ago come across what I think may be Luna's to be...not sure though. After taking a couple hand held unprepared shots while at a clients house, I returned later with a tripod, flash etc....they were gone but I will keep going back to see just what appears.

I most certainly envy you people who have such wonderful flora and fauna, although we have some wonderful patterned moths we have nothing like that. Are these moths USA wide or just in a few states.

I live in the State of Georgia (US) and have seen the Luna Moth three or four times over the past 12 years. Attached are a couple of photos I took of the same.

Love the "eyes" which appear when the wings are extended!

Had one here a few weeks ago - had accidentally left an outside light on - which, if you want to get an inventory of your local moths, is a great idea. Have a light shining on a white sheet, leave it on all night, and get up at sunrise to see what you have attracted! Lots of very interesting moths - little pink ones, nice black and white ones, etc.
