D3000 auto focus error

The auto focus on my D3000 quit working. The focus mode options in the menu settings are grayed out and I get an error message stating "This option is not available with currant settings." What do I do? The manual is of no help at all.
I have had the camera for some time, and have never had any issues with it.

I assume you have a lens that will AF with that body, some nikkors wont, the lens must have a built in AF motor

Look in the manual

The manual will show that there is NO linkage for lenses that don't have a built in motor

The D7000 has a built in motor for older lenses and connections for newer lenses so it will do both, the d3000 will NOT run lenses that don't have their own drive as the manual states

Also, if it has worked take a q tip, dampen and rub the contacts on camera and lens, I use a soft t towel, finally go to the menu and reset to factory defaults
