At Scout Camp there was a real character with a nick name of Pappy. Here is a photo of him that I doctored up a bit.

The download looks great. Nice understated use of the oil. Good job, Brent!

THanks s2hrts for checking in and seeing the photo. I really like this one and also like it best when downloaded to see all the fun detail in the Oil Paint Filter. I'm glad you downloaded it.

Thanks for reminding me to download, it looks a lot better in full size. I saw that you didn't apply the effect to the face. I love the effect on the hat and sleeves, but I haven't found an oil paint program or filter that does faces any justice. What program did you use? I really hope that some day, I can get it down to the point where I can really make a portrait look as good as a painting (like on his hat)

It was done in Photoshop CS6 (oil paint filter).
It's really good on grass and foliage. Check out this link:

Again, it might be interesting to see the un-altered version?

He looks like a character, I love the color saturation of the picture.

Thanks MagicFad. Which one do you like better? The top one I toned down the dirt and blurred it a bit. The bottom one is the original untouched.

I downloaded both photos and I can see the differences. I like the way you processed the first picture and left Pappy's face and the bolo on his scarf alone, that has impact. I also like the brightness of the scarf in the second picture, I think it is part of the character of Pappy. Perhaps a blend of the processed and not processed on the scarf might give it a little more impact, but that's just my personal opinion. Either way I really like both the original and the processed photo. You have done an excellent job... as usual
