Took a walk this morning in a state wildlife area where there was a active osprey nest with three chick's. They have now left the nest but are still nearby the river entering lake pueblo. A few inflight photo's.
Nice exposures, details, and sky ! .....
Nice Series, the number of Osprey seem to be suddenly jumping
up quickly over the last few years.
It's like an Eagle recovery story being replayed in nature.

I monitored two osprey nests this year - neither produced any young ! ?
Not BIF but here is one of the young one's near their nest, this photo is from about 600ft away. On the shores of lake pueblo the division of wildlife have put up numerous platforms for hawks. Mostly osprey have taken up residence, plenty of fish in the lake since it's stocked on a regular basis.
one of 3 young osprey

Osprey were also affected by DDT as were the Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons. It caused their eggs shells to be so thin that they would break easily. You are right that they have made a comeback. What is interesting is that they used to nest in natural settings like large dead snags, cliffs or even on the ground on islands without mamalian predators. Now, they almost exclusively nest on man made structures i.e. power poles, cell towers and human provided nest platforms. We tend to see so many of them becasue they are fairly tolerant of nearby human activity.
Three good pics enjoyed em all.
