Thanks, Imagemeister! Nikon D5000 with Sigma 150-500. I need to try their suggestion of putting it on Aperture priority, f8 and ISO-800. Will try tomorrow. I usually shoot all manual.

Nicely done! Our stilts have left after breeding, so I miss them.

The settings you aretalking about are my suggestions for handholding. In bright sun, they should get you a shutter duration of around 1/2000. that is sufficient to eliminate any camera shake or subject movement with your lens.

Post some pix so we can see how you did!

Thank you, Birdpix! I am looking at the photos from today right now. Some turned out. I used those settings all day -on all shots and it worked out pretty well. Will post some later.

Nice shot,you froze the bird and got a keeper picture

I saw my first Black Necked Stilts here in Wisconsin last week along with other Shore Birds.

It's unusual for them to be here I understand so I enjoyed seeing them and getting some shots to add to my album of target birds.
