Does anyone know how to retrieve files from an I-Mac that
are in various places on the disk? Over the years, I have stored
files in different folders under different names and now I can't
find some of them. What I would really like is one command or program that would let me pull everything together into my
i-photo library. Thanks very much..........Stopbath
Gosh, can't help you on I-Mac. Never owned one. In a PC, you can write in search "photos" and chose "look in all files and folders" and it will find every photo and their location ever loaded into the machine.
Hit Command F Use the find screen to type in a filename or simply dsc or jpg to see all that are available. If they are named part of a filename will work
Since you say ..over the years.. & you want to pull everything under your iPhoto library
I would assume you are looking for pictures?
If like me , you have been using iPhoto, updating iLife-and the operating system--sometimes iPhoto creates new libraries
., or you have multiple copies on one or more disks.
To see if this is the case - or to browse a different iPhoto Library, hold down the Option key when you launch iPhoto. This will bring up a window showing you all available libraries on your disk(s) - (and the option to create a new library).
Now you can browse the contents of old libraries.
Note: iPhoto will remember your last library choice, so remember to quit and relaunch iPhoto with the Option key held down a second time to reset the library back to your original location.
If this is your case - there is a program that can merge your libraries together called iPhoto Library Manager by fatcatsoftware. I hear it can take hours to merge, but have not used it myself.
Hope this helps

Call the NSA. 1-800 mystuff. They have everything. Restoration only costs $99, $199 if you're a Republican. Don't lie to them, they'll know. :-D

On an Imac, go to Finder at the top left of the screen; type in the words find "photos", possibly a date if you have it, or subject, and press find; and just wait for the magic to happen!

"Sorry, your call cannot be connected as dialed." :D
That works in the search window (command F) But I don't see it from the finder drop down. That "finder", I believe manages the desktop and OS for apple.

I like that. Perhaps they have weekend specials on any info you desire.

Install Picasa for Mac. Run it and it will search your HD and "find" all the image files stored in whatever folders. Then you can Copy, Move, etc, into a central folder with appropriate sub folders.
Excellent suggestion: I believe it is also able to search your iPhoto library.

This works sometimes... very well. Other times I find I have to go to a specific major folder to "hit" Command and F to find the right file. I spend a lot of time finding a particular file because I am such a slouch when I name and file my photos. My decktop is a mess.
Doesn't work here, but thanks for the advice..Stopbath
