GoPro Time Lapse Question

Greetings All,
I just purchased a GoPro Hero & a chest harness for it.
I'd like to wear it on some hiking trips and wondering if anyone could recommend a sample rate for a average hiking pace.
I could experiment with it and figure it out myself but figured it would be easier to ask here first. I'm thinking a pic every 10 seconds might be a good starting point but maybe that's much faster than necessary .
Anyone have experience creating time lapse vids while hiking with these cameras?
Thanks for your help & advice.

Just curious if you have tried youtube as they have a ton of GO PRO videos that are quite helpful. I use mine a lot but have not done any time lapse. I used it pretty regularly quile quad riding in Utah, I changed from 10 sec to 30 sec because too many of my shots looked identical. I'd be interested in what you find out. Happy hiking!

If youre shooting sunrises,sunsets...cloud formations etc..10 seconds at a playback of 10fps as worked well for me.

Dont be afraid of identical images...that is what will make your video playback smooth instead of choppy.

If you want to time lapse your hike over an extended period...experiment with 30 sec to a minute...dont worry about your pace...let the camera worry about that.

Which model did you get? I see they now have an LCD attachment for them.

The more time between shots, the faster (and choppier) the video. The speed at which you hike will also be a factor in the final result. This is something you will need to tweak as you get into it. My first thought is to start with a small hike and shoot every 3 seconds as a base line for the future. Shooting this many allows you the choice of deleting shots from your timeline if you have just too many but not having enough of them in the first place is a killer.

As you grow you will find your own optimal settings for uphill, level and downhill hikes. Do yourself a big favor and don't expect perfection or anywhere close to it from your first 10 hikes. Good luck and have fun.
