Heron varieties..

it's a real specie. the one in the OP's photo is an immature bird; as adults, they more closely resemble the green heron in appearance. they live mostly in Central America, and are very rarely seen in the US, which is why you've probably never seen one in Oregon... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bare-throated_Tiger_Heron

Sorry it took so long to respond. I somehow lost track of this thread and did not see them until now. The Tiger and Bull Billed were taken in Costa Rica last Jan. Actually the Little Blue and Tri Colored were from there as well, but I beleve they can be found here also (just not by me!).

Had to add a few more First two are the Yellow-crowned night Heron, little Blue Heron, and a Tri-colored Heron.
