Thought I would do a quick review on this plate. I was looking for an L plate for my Nikon d5100 to mount on the tripod. Looked at the Kirk among others and quite frankly, just hated to spend the money for a piece of metal. So, found this Sunwayfoto brand L Plate on Amazon. Looked at reviews on this plate and one purchaser said it worked great on his Nikon 5100 and was a well built plate. The price was right as well and purchased this for $67.
Now, the rest of the story: Took it out of the packaging and this was a very well made plate. Mounted it too my nikon and fit was great as well. Only one problem; could not open the battery door and the side door for my remote shutter/flash cable. While this was a great price and well built, if you need these other options to work, than this is not the L plate for you.
Sent plate back and ordered the Kirk L plate from Adorama for $110. It hurt to spend that extra money, but I know that this will work with my camera also and allow the doors to open while in place too.
So, bottom line, if you can use this type of plate and not care about not getting into those doors on your camera, this is a great buy. Just thought I would share my findings with UHH.
I have the a Canon 60 D with vertical battery grip. I just put in service the Kirk L. It is fantastic. Everything is operational. I can go from horizontal to vertical in a flash. All of the functions such as placing shutter lease battery change etc work and quickly. There are clamps that are available to attach other equipment/accessories to the cage if I desire.
I bought mine on eBay at about 1/3 of the cost. Same product.
I hope you like your as much as I like mine. "JR"
With the Kirk L-plate can you still move the LCD monitor to the side and set it at different angles? I heard that you can do that with the RRS L-Plate, but it is a little more expensive.
RRS or Kirk they are both extremely good and fit perfectly

You can still rotate the monitor, but not completely out to the side with the kirk plate on. Hope that helps. Not sure if the RRS works any better.
I have found that the articulating monitor is not serviceable. I don't believe that I ever used it anyway. Too many years with 35 mm. J. R.
