Package Delivery - "Surepost"?

We all love to see the UPS truck arriving, but they occasionally use something called SurePost. It should be called EventuallyPost. They take delivery of the package and bring it to your local post office. Then it gets delivered by your regular mail carrier. The problem is that this can delay the shipment by a day or more.

I was tracking a UPS delivery, and it said it went to my post office. When it still hadn't been delivered by the next day, I went to my PO. "We don't have it." I emailed UPS. "Your Post Office has it." When I didn't receive it the next day, I went to my PO. "We don't have it." It arrived the following day. I have a package on the way now (not photographic) that is scheduled to be delivered by Monday. I'm not holding my breath.

Yep, I have also had that experience. It took forever to get my package.

Surepost is probably the worst idea UPS has ever come up with. BUT, you can usually elect to have UPS deliver it directly to you, for at least a $3.50 surcharge.

Fed-Ex does the same kindda thing "Smartpost." Hmmmm, since the GOP Congress is intent on eliminating the Post Office in favor of commercial firms, wonder how that'll work since the commercial firms depend on the USPS.

They haven't thought that far ahead.

This isn't even a "Free" delivery from the seller, but I guess the shipping charge was lower doing it this way. Although, the UPS truck has to stop at the PO 1/2 mile from my house and bring in whatever he has. Even if I met him there, I'd still have to wait till the post office people got it sorted

That's nothing, my store is right next door to the post office and UPS delivers to them just before delivering to me. When I know I have a surepost package coming I just walk next door and ask them for it rather than wait another day for them to deliver it to me. I often get items through surepost as well as direct on the same day, just makes no sense to me, but it must make corporate sense to some pencil pusher somewhere. I wonder how much discount the USPS passes on to UPS to deliver their stuff for them and how much it adds to the postal deficit annually?

Yep, had the SmartPost with Fedex/USPS. Tracking showed it at the P.O. Went there, and they refused to look for it. Said could take several days to be delivered by my mail carrier, but it actually did arrive the next day.

Surepost is great, I have a package on the way by Priority Mail. Ha Ha, you can't even get connected to the site, let alone find anything. And they charged me $8.50 for this.

An internet search turned up "USPS SUCKS", it seems that the only sure thing you can know; is when it turns up at your door - if it ever does. ?????

This is true. I just received three items via USPS, and their tracking numbers ALL show "Received at partner facility" in Secaucus, NJ. Nice, dependable tracking USPS!

Well, when I checked the USPS site. They declared that the number wasn't theirs, and gave me three other affiliates to check with -------- guess what, they don't know either, and referred me back to the USPS.  :hunf:

And everybody wonders, and can't understand? why our economy is in the meat grinder.

Some years ago, when I was suffering from a serious E-Bay addiction, it would take at least three weeks for my checks to travel from the Gulf Coast to the West Coast (sent regular 1st class, not registered or certified) . Once, at the seller’s request, I put a tracer on the post. A mere $3.00. The USPS tracing consisted of leaving a note in the addressee’s box asking if they had received it, then notifying me that it was “lost”. After that, when a seller would question whether or not I had sent payment, I related my experience and persuaded them to wait a little longer. It was only $3, but FOR WHAT!!??
