I am shooting with a 7D and love it. I do have to change lenses on occasion and am considering getting another Canon. I would continue to use the 7D as primary (bigger lenses, etc.), but would use the new camera for wide angle shots when I would want to get closer shots. I am toying with the new Rebel because of its size. My question is what would I be giving up? Can I use all of my 7D lenses? Other accessories? Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

IMHO I would suggest the 6D. That would give you a full frame camera to go with your cropped frame 7D. I happen to have both and all your lenses are interchangeable. You'd be giving up nothing and gaining a lot.

Sorry, but the lenses are NOT interchangeable. The 6d is a full frame and requires EF lenses. The 7d is crop sensor and will use EF as well as EFS lenses. The use of EFS lenses on the 6D will damage the mirror assembly and should never be mounted.

Yes. That was my mistake. EFS cannot be used on the 6D. Even if an EFS didn't damage the mirror it will definitely stop it from lifting. Sorry about that.

I started with a T2i. in the first year I moved up to a 50d. I sold the T2i when I did so. A yr.5 later I was holding a 7d (for the shutter speed) and still had the 50d. I posted it for sale but saw what they were selling for and decided to keep it as a back up, or maybe I would use it to get a friend into photography. Just a few months ago I decided to carry two cams so I wouldn't have to change lenses. I put the wide angle on the 50d and the long lens on the 7d. Iam so glad I kept the 50d. For this reason alone it made sense and with a wide lens, the shutter speed per second was not a factor so the slightly slower cam made it work. You can pick up a 50d for a song of what they retailed for and use it as a back up. Sure the bottons are a tad diff from the 7d and a few other things but I love it and wont sell it now.

Exceedingly good point well made by you

That is the very reason why I never fell into the trap of buying crop sensor lenses as sooooo many did and have, ALL my lenses can be used on both

In her defense though, she never did say that she had EFS lenses just that she had a bunch of lenses.

I have the 7D and the T3i as a back-up. As stated earlier, the EF lenses will work on all FF Canon sensor cameras. The EF-S lenses will work on only the Canon crop sensor cameras. The 7D and Rebel series are crop sensor cameras. I bought my T3i refurbished and saved a lot of money. Gary

Noela,
I shoot with 7D and 5D Mark III . Second to non camera pair. I did upgrade Rebel SLR 450 to MarkIII. Bit pricey indeed , BUT,,,
There is 50D available , with full size censor. If you planning to make $ or be lot on competition go for MarkIII, and no more upgrading for years to come.

This is my arsenal as well. For the first time in years, I don't feel the need to think about another camera body. Very glad I held out for the 5D Mark III. A remarkable camera. My 7D is the one I still use for reach and speed. The other for everything else. What a joy it is to be able to crank up the ISO and not worry about noise.

On thing to consider is similarity of controls. If you have to make changes quickly, and you're going from one camera to another, that could slow you down. I sometimes go out with a tele on the my right shoulder and a W/A on my left - same model body. I use an OP/Tech Double Sling. You can get a refurb or a used camera from ebay.

I agree with you. Fortunately the 7D and 5D M III have very similar set ups.

I like your thinking Noela, and agree the new mini rebel would be a good choice with no drawbacks !

I shoot a 40D and use...my old 1Ds as backup. Clunky but excellent.
