Learn one thing new everyday, looks like this is the place for that. Just registered today but have been reading the posts for a while now, good information from a lot of sources.
Purchased a new Canon 7D a year ago and still learning all the buttons and dials, I have used the video part of the camera a few times but I believe you have to manually focus on subject, has anyone found a auto focus such to follow a moving subject while in video mode, maybe I haven't found that button yet?? Dave

The 7D will autofocus but will put a slight glitch in your video and might hunt before getting it right. It's really not suggested on the 7D. I believe some of Canons newer Rebels like the T4i with the lens that is designed for autofocus does a better job.

There are attachments you can purchase that strap around the manual focus ring on the lens and has a handle protruding for more gradual focusing. This is the way I'd go if doing movies.

THANKS for the welcomes and information, I hope we can learn new things from each other along the way. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. For those that have been here I bet you had a great time and all the others make it a place to visit summer only unless you really like snow and cold, cold. Alaska, what a great place to photograph.

I think your question has already been answered so welcome to UHH. Many knowledgable people here. I was in Anchorage once in January but it was night all day so I didn't see much. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I also use the Canon 7D. I believe your manual recommends using the manual focus on video. It does a great job.

Thanks Photo One the 7D does real nice video and the sound is great close up just off the camera mic but I do wildlife video and they don't always cooperate to stay in focus. Guess I will have to use it for static subjects and my other actual video camera for wildlife that moves, thanks for your input. Dave

Bruce with a Canon, thanks for the replies, as for a drive in I think its now a real theater called Totem Theater, right after the curve North side of road, There are a couple places called Grizzly Burger not sure which one you know, no address on Northern Lights for them though, Embers Bar (I don't drink) but I don't see one listed here, just other towns, you need to come back for a visit its really grown up, I moved here permanent in 1975 about when you left.
