Returning Camera to Adorama

I am considering returning my recently purchased camera to Adorama (within the 30 days period). Does anyone have experience returning products to them? How particular are they with original inserts in packaging? I had large bubble packing material which either lost air or was popped to reduce space in our garage. I can certainly package the returned item well.

Any thoughts or past experiences with Adorama returns would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I traded a lens with them. They did not require the original box or even the bag it comes with. They claimed it would not penalize the trade-in value.

My experience with them overall is good.

I never had any problems with them even without the original packaging. They are very professional and want your business.

You shouldnt have a problem. Repackage everything sent, instruction manual, cords, etc as close as received as practical and ship along with the paperwork they provided. ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone. Reason I'm returning ... I was comparing the photos taken from my d5100 to those taken from my Sony NEX 5n (same photo subject, distance, settings as close as possible), and saw a big difference in the clarity of the images.

Things I like about the Nikon are the creative effects but sharpness or clarity is more important to me, and i got that in my NEX 5n. I was using the kit lens for both cameras. I also like the choice of lens options with the Nikon, the Sony's options are either very expensive or not that highly rated.

I may use the money from the return to invest in a better lens for the Sony after saving up a little more.

I wish shops here allowed people to have cameras free for a month

It is very nice of them. I took great care of the camera thinking I'd keep it but as of last night have reconsidered.

It is not all great.

It used to be that we could go to stores, try cameras and then buy them. We can't do that anymore.

Our retail system has changed. The large selection of products, the wide discussion of them on the internet and the growth of web stores we "buy on line". Local specialty stores of all sorts are gone.

There is still a cost. It has to do with how returned merchandise is handled and it has to be built into the retail price somewhere.

Most of the local stores are gone. One big one, Future Shop, is gone. Best Buy is having trouble because shoppers stop long enough to try a camera and go home for bargain pricing on the internet.

In our choice as consumers to stop spending at local stores, we have become reliant on massive retailers like Walmart, Costco and Amazon -- all with online systems and impressive return policies.

Amazon is working on penetration into the clothing market. Knowing the need to "try things on" they are experimenting with the idea of shipping multiple sizes KNOWING you will return two of the three things you bought. Return labels and authorization are in the original box!

I guess there is a price to be paid.

I shop at London Camera Exchange here, I also buy from them, not all the time, but much pre owned.

They are as close to what photographic shops used to be.

Not always the cheapest but competitive, you can try out and ask questions of people who KNOW

Perhaps our equivalent is B&H in New York. Due to an odd quirk, they normally start with a 10% price advantage. Our courts ruled that retailers don't have to charge local sales tax if they don't have a "brick and mortar" presence in the buyer's location. B&H has a single store. With the 10% off and a full 30 day return guarantee, it is a good place to start with any camera purchase.

Amazon has nobody that knows anything. Instead they have "reviews" from customers. Many have to pay the sales tax because Amazon has distribution centers in a lot of states. They also have excellent return policies and better shipping policies.

Both have everything you ever see or hear about.

Adorama, also in New York, is said to be good too. I've never bought from them.

Helen,

I should point out that I live in Washington State. I'm a long ways away.

I should also add that I have purchased from you through Amazon, but I forgot!

It is nice to see a Customer Service Ambassador monitor a forum like this.
