Hope this doesn't sound like I'm putting you down.

Your camera manual will tell you which cards are compatible with your camera. Suggest you spend time reading the manual. Also check the FAQs for more information.

That's a very good card JR1 recommends, I personally don't use cards with a big capacity, I do have 4 8gb sd cards though.
I know it's a bit defeatest but lose a 32gb card you also lose a lot of photos. I don't do video but 8gb gives upto 2 hours video.

johneccles makes a point that I've heard many times, but I've never had a quality card fail. I've carried them loose in my pocket with change, run through my washing machine (SD and CF) and dryer multiple times and never a failure. At one time or another I've done everything wrong, but they still work right! I use mostly 16's and 32's because I shoot a lot and all in full RAW. It works for me.

Hi photoninja, I have never actually lost a card, but I have have had a failure, fortunately it didn't matter because I download my photos as often as possible.
Cheers JE

I have even been known to put mine in the wash forgetting to take them out of my pockets (nothing valuable), Sandisk, never a days problems, ever

You will love your 60D. And because it has video capability, I also use 16 or 32GB cards. The cost is insignificant in relation to the potential.
For those who keep saying they'd hate to have such a huge loss of data, I suggest that after each shooting session, you download. On a trip I do that every night. At home, perhaps in two days of shooting. I don't have a big backup from trying to FILL the card. In fact, I'd change out before reaching that point.

However, once you are in the spot where you are doing continual shooting or interspersing video, you will appreciate the larger space option.

Your mileage may vary.

Have fun!

I too use 16/32 but it isn't a case of large for large sake.

I have to this day never shot over 12 or so BUT you never know when you may need the extra, also I have at least ten cards, ok I shoot other than just for a hobby, but as you say the cost these days is irrelevant.

I remember when 1GB was a weeks wages, now 32Gb in the best cards is nothing

I like sake! But, I use 16/32 Sandisks. 16's mainly for videos of family outings, 16's for photos and never fill them up before I use another. Not larger. Always d/l to computer ASAP. I have had a bad episode with an Adata card in the past. Lost pics but Adata replaced the card.

60D accepts SD cards, great card to use is 4 to 8 GB class 10, you can not go wrong.

If you want to use CF cards 1D series use CF and SD cards
50D uses CF cards
