Check your manual, page 252. Setting ISO to "H" is the same as 12800.

Thanks Mogul. Finally figured it out. Now to figure when, where, and why I need 12800 ISO.Tried a few shots with my Sigma 24-70 f2.8 in a room with minimum light and was surprised at the results. I take it you would only use that setting at night? Ray.

It would depend on noise problems, but, on a cloudy day (EV12), birds in flight at varying distances, I could shoot at f/16 and 1/2000.

So it's OK to leave it set up for 12800 ISO and still be able to use any other setting I need?

I'll go one better. Read this:

It may seem boring, but if you finish it, you'll know more about exposure than you'll ever need to know and more that a whole lot of professionals today.

Not boring but I will read it through and try to retain most of it starting tonight. Thanks again for your help Mogul. Ray.

I shot a rodeo once (it did not start before dark and the lighting was less than bad). I actually shot at ISO 20.000 and still could get shutter speeds not faster then 1/180sec.
The pictures are fine for viewing on the screen, but I certainly would not print them.

IMO you use very high ISO when you have little light and do not want to use a flash.

You get noise but you may want noise for instance in a jazz nightclub and shooting in B&W or doing street photography at night while walking along the boulevard.
