I use WHCC.com for prints. They recommend you calibrate your monitor then upload five pictures for free test prints. I did not calibrate and just got my test prints. The color was horrible compared to what was on my screen. I purchased a monitor calibrator and sent off for more photos. They turned out perfect. The photos matched my screen which is important if you are editing photos.

I should rename my self salmon for swimming against the flow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rpe6KRe3Dg give you some initial steps. The graphics/video card has calibration programs built in.

It is also important that you have uniform color gamut camera and edit/view program. Adobe rgb is popular.
learn a lot at: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/search.htm
search color gamut.

Another way with out $$ gadgets is to photo graph a paint chart and tweak the monitor to match. But indeed if you have the $$ the sure a spider calibrator or other brand. Important is have fun.
