Hi, guys. I've been on topic here for a small travel camera vs. lugging the DSLR's. A while ago I almost bought a Go Pro Black Edition for an upcoming trip but the seller couldn't find the charger at the last minute. I've seen reviews of a lot of quality issues early on and that slowed me down, too. Of course GP says they're beyond that and if I buy my camera from them I'll get the latest firmware, etc. Has anybody seen still images from one of these? I do mostly pics and only the occasional video. What attracts me is the size, you can put it anywhere. I know this won't be the camera to cure all ills but maybe as a second shooter? Thanks...Jim.

I looked into this camera also, and still might get it someday. From what I've seen/read, the Black Edition (most expensive version) is leaps and bounds ahead of the cheaper versions of GoPro. I'm thinking there might be a newer model on the way sometime soon. That's what I'm waiting on.
You're probably right on a newer model. The Black has been around about a year, long time for electronics today.

Take a look at this. Not sure which GoPro, but it's one of theirs for sure.

I've read the reviews on Amazon, and they're not great. If you do the software update correctly, that seems to help. Considered the differences between the models and the much higher price for the Black.
My son has the Sliver Edition, had a few issues with firmware updates. It takes wonderful videos, he used it for a snowmobiling trip to West Yellowstone and it produced a wonderful video with vivid colors. and just recently used it for a scuba dive with a red filter. He doesn't do still photos with the camera though, just video.
I wouldn't use it as a backup as you can get a fisheye distortion, maybe a good point and shoot would suite you better as the GoPro is more for the adventures video taker.
