I have been scanning in some old black and white negatives, and have been looking for clues as to when they were taken. This one, of St Paul's Cathedral, has a bus with an ad for the film "Jeremy". I looked on IMDB and found that this film was made in 1973, so this photo is probably from 1974. There are no leaves on the trees, so it is either early or late in the year, probably early, as the time is 3.05pm, and would probably have been too dark at that time in the winter, but that's just a guess. Also interesting to see that the traffic lights had STOP and GO on them. Don't know when they stopped doing that.

Doesn't the van on the right side of the bus appear a bit newer?

I know it doesn't date things any better but.

The Leyland Mini
This registration was first registered during the period August 1972 to July 1973.

The registration was first registered in London.

South West Tower
Does anyone know when that was restored in the 70s?

Looks about right. Here's another shot taken at the same time, and the latest registration is "L" on several of the vehicles.

Except that anything that involved getting down on your hands and knees would be beyond me. Can get down, but can't get up again!

I hope you do not mind, but ran through a noise reduction program. Perhaps it will help with identification. Gary

Could you post those again with "store original", and what was the noise reduction program?

You probably have the date narrowed down pretty well.

It would also be interesting to know what film was used. If it is 35mm I'm guessing it was PanF or Panatomic-X since the grain is so fine. If medium format it could have been almost anything else.

Bless all those cameras that had date imprint (outside the image area).
