I took the Dremel apart and found out why the motor wasn't turning the shaft. There is a nylon gear on the motor and a similar on one the shaft. These gears are connected by some sort of soft, waxy material. That material broke apart at the motor end.

It's called a coupling, and I ordered one for $5.33 delivered.

The yellowish tube is what connects the motor to the shaft.

Jerry, isn't that a type of nylon that may have overheated?
Jerry, it's NOT for cutting down trees! Maybe it's the nut behind the wheel. Was it in your glove box and you have a cigarette lighter adapter or did you actually GET OUT OF THAT DAMN CAR, JERRY!

Great tools. Couldn't live without mine. Took off my wife's warts last week with it. Saved a bundle.

Nice photo. Could you give me the specs? I'd photoshop the cords out and blur the background.

I think this is going to be a 88 page topic. Rob had 56 pages when he asked how to change a light bulb.

I know. It does everything, cutting toe nails, trimming hair, removing ear wax. It was my doctor who turned me onto this tool when I was a kid. He used it for everything. Actually, he was both my doctor and my dentist. I had the whitest teeth in town!

You are so right. I noticed how white your teeth were sitting in that glass. Hope you can get it all back together.

I bought this special adapter at Home Depot - lets me use mine as a weed whacker and a brush cutter! Hate the long extension cords though!

Some may ask what this has to do with photography... well without a Dremel we would not be able to fix or make gadgets that we need.
Example: for my Pan ZS20, I bought a sun shield for the 3" screen. Ooops, it has plastic over the screen, ZS20 has a touch screen,,, to the rescue comes the dremel.

Of course a Dremel is a photographic tool. How could anyone thing otherwise? Afterall, I took a picture of it. Still, I posted it in Chit-Chat to avoid controversy.

I realized too late that I probably could have improvised and used a piece of plastic tubing as a coupling. I could have saved $5.33.

Hay wait a minute... I am getting the connection now... I read in the NYTimes that a NY man was picked up on charges of Dremel abuse.. tell me it aint't so Jerry.. this is worse than the Redsocks' scandal when my father said "Tell me it ain't so Joe"

Jerry, what did you do to that Dremel to break that connection... nothing perverted I hope. Fess up,, we can not forgive you with out details.

With so much hostility going on in UHH discussions this one is fun, humor and good for us all.

I must admit it. The breakage was my own fault. I operated the Dremel - actually let the motor run. Lesson learned!

That's pretty much the way mine looked too.
Glad you're able to fix it.
