As soon as I go for the camera, they skidaddle.
I was lucky to get this one. She lingered for a bit.
Just a bit of a focus issue I'll have to solve.
The male Ruby is camera shy. I'm going to hang a "Happy Hour" sign, then maybe he'll stick around for an extra second or two... :?
I need lots of patience for these birds....

Gorgeous shot, they put cats to shame with their speed!
Beautiful shot of him, Ron. I think you'll find putting superglue on the perch will help keep them there a tad longer. Or you could just staple them to it.

Thanks, I didn't know that I could sit still and wait for that eternity (or it seemed)...

Superglue won't work. I only have a couple of them so the glue would evaporate.
Now, if I had a herd of them (is that a correct term ?) then I might try it.
Staples?? Are you kidding?? I blink the wrong way and they're off to Mexico!! No way getting that close...
But Duct Tape works for the cats.... :?

Thanks... To paraphrase Treepusher, you have to concentrate on 3 things...
1. Patience
2. Patience
3. Patience
And then you have a chance of snagging your hummer. Good luck...

Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to shooting these little guys....but well worth the effort! Nice shot! Glad you got it.
Hi Geezer! First of all I just want to say that this thread made my day...I was laughing out loud at the replies! LOL! You are getting close with your shots Geezer. I too took on the challenge of the Hummer and it took me a week to get a half decent shot! One of the things that I happened upon on another thread here at The UHH was to check my in camera settings...soooooooo I checked and my "sharpness" setting was set way too low in all presets. I played with them and turned them up to "7" on some and lower on others. I then took comparison shots and low and behold...after making changes to sharpness and noise reduction it was much better. Also in post processing I captured the eye and did some sharpening.
I will post my results and a bit later today so you can see how I progressed...Look for "sharpness comparison with Hummingbird" later today. Also I found that the more I sat near the feeder the more comfortable the hummers were.
Hope this helps some! Keep up the good work and we look forward to seeing your progress!
Cheers!
