Was playing around in the movie mode.....
With zero zoom (see that tiny black spot above the trees in the distance?)
with 1/2 optical range
full optical range 35x
full digital @140x (and I dare say that balloon was a good 3 miles away)

Excellent set, awesome for handheld in the last one! With the SX50 I'm having to get a remote trigger to use the extreme zoom.

If I'd waited another month I'd have gotten the SX50 because of the remote capabilities - the SX40 doesn't have that. But......oh well. And I've found that in the movie mode is the best one for hand held shots in the digital range - beautiful stabilization there.
