Obama's "presence" is enough

I found this today in the Wall Street Journal's website and it just struck me as alarmingly indicative of one of the major problems of our society today. I mean really??? The leader of this country doesn't need to lead? Doesn't need to "do" anything but be there and be black? I am a democrat, albeit far from liberal, AND a vocal opponent of Obama. However, I think this attitude or mindset is exactly the problem. I also see this statement as extremely racist. Does Jay-Z really think that because Obama is the first black president that that alone gives this nation and the rest of the world hope and that is all he need do? My feeling is black or white, democrat or republican, male or female our president must do way more than just get elected. He or she must lead. Must work with the congress to ensure a robust economy. Must set the example for the rest of this country, and yes, even the whole world with sound domestic and foreign policies. Become a shining beacon of humanity and civility for all people. In short, the President of The United States of America must be a decisive, responsible and respectable LEADER. To be black and hold the office is not nearly enough.

"During a recent interview with Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson (carried on Jay-Z’s Life+Times YouTube channel), Jay-Z said,“I’m offended by that because first of all, and this is going to sound arrogant, but my presence is charity. Just who I am. Just like Obama’s is. Obama provides hope. Whether he does anything, the hope that he provides for a nation, and outside of America is enough.” He continued, “Just being who he is. You’re the first black president. If he speaks on any issue or anything he should be left alone…"

Obama's "presence" is enough

It's been enough to divide the country.

I don't listen to him. My point is this quote is emblematic of a LOT of other people's thoughts these days. And therein lies a big problem.

My point is how can you say that this is a lot of other peoples point of view. Have a lot of people expressed this opinion to you, or did you read this and assumed it is a lot of peoples views. Because I don't think a lot of people agree with, basically an entertainer.

I try to surround myself with people who make me better and I can make them better.
Wise people work together and not against other people.
