While visiting the Como Zoo in St. Paul MN with 3 adults and 3 children we saw the little fellow in his pen. The kids thought he would be fun to have as a pet being they are from the family farm and used to many animals. After learning that they would need to clean and care for this type of pet they lost interest. Sparky the seal show was a big hit for the kids and of course anything to do with water they could play in and get wet.
Hedge Hog for a pet, the kids mother said "I don't thinks so" end of story!
Thanks angler, sure had a great day at the zoo with the sister in-law, her daughter and the 3 great niece and nephews. Coming from the country and being from a farm you would think they had enough looking at animals but to see all the lions and tigers and bears oh my.

Good shot Gregory.
The universal cry of children. "Mom, can I have one of those? What'd'ya mean I have to clean and feed it!" ;-)
Isn't that the way we teach children, but in the end who ends up taking care of the pet. Life is to busy these day's running to and from events and commitments.

They are cute little dudes but are nocturnal. If you want something up all night while you are trying to sleep, have at it. :-) Cheers.
This would not probably be my first choice of a pet for a kid. I would stick to dogs and cats as their mother said no to this one.
