Like the tittle mentioned , I would like to found out if on this site , beside being a photographer there's a person who's knowledge include watches.
I have a Omega chronograph since 1976 . There is something strange about it on the back cover , something you might see on a cheap watch , but not on a Omega .
I was offer between 1200 and 4000$ for it because of that , since the difference in offer vary so much I would like to found out .

Thank you for your help

The problem is that you don't tell us what that strange might be.

Perhaps if you were a little more vague, it might help the time piece folks discern what the answer might be.

Example I bought a ROREX watch in Korea ( Itaewan, section of Seoul ) Admittedly I had just left the juicy bar and I was in somewhat less than pristine condition.

For some reason I had visions of a Rolex on my wrist.
OOPS MY BAD, Good thing it only cost me 2000 Wan. ( 20 bucks US)

Hey Doc ..... show it over here but they do not allow price to be discussed on the forum. However, there are forum members that will send you a private message concerning pricing

A few years ago I was involved with the Apollo program and was witness to the popularity of the Omega Speedmaster watch as being worn by the astronauts during the moon landing. The unusual inscription on the back is puzzling, especially with the missing "M". I never saw one like it. As you indicated, the watch is a chronograph and as such it lacks the precision of a chronometer, so I believe the price you have been offered is due to what appear to be a one-of-a-kind inscription on the case.

From the back it looks like a Flightmaster, I sold mine last year for $2500, wish it had that engraving on it. Any good jeweler could duplicate that I'm sure. I've never seen that backplate before, you could contact Watchuseek.com, they have lots of Omega specialists on their forum.

It is certainly not a Flightmaster. The inscription on the face clearly reads "Speedmaster".

When I zoom up it fuzzes out so will take your word for it, never seen a face like that on a FM. Mine came from PX in Viet Nam, only one I'd ever seen.

I have one of those watches, purchased around the same time as you stated. It appears that there might have been an "M" there at one time, as there is a black dot, which might have been the left upper point of the 'M'.

The spot that is marked is in the same location, the insignia at the center of the back is oriented the same with respect to the letters, etc. There is also a small number on the band near the pin which holds it to the watch. Obviously not the same number as mine, as I think that may be a part number. Yours and mine match with the same number.

I just photographed mine and marked both yours and mine to point out the area I am discussing. Your dial and hands are in much better condition than mine are.

The missing 'M' could simply be from wear because it looks like there was part of the letter still there.

BTW, there is an interesting bit of information regarding why NASA chose Omega for space flight over other equally precise watches. You should look that up, if you haven't already.

Like you said it is puzzling to me that a watch with the name Omega has this unusual inscription .
