Currently I have a Nikon D200 I only have an interest in photography and not video. I understand that my upgrade in Nikon just photography is the D300. Is this correct or is there another model that is better in Nikon ?

What do you need in a new camera that your current one does not provide?

As mentioned by St3v3m, I would be looking at lens not cameras. Just my point of view.

Live View, and more pixels, the D200 is only 10.5 and no live view

The D300s is only 12mp...not really enough to make a difference.
It does have a bit better image quality than the D200 though.
I don't like the button arrangement, but the D7000 is a great camera and the build quality is pretty decent.
Since it's discontinued, prices should be pretty affordable.
Just ignore the video capability.
Not sure what kind of subjects you are shooting, but if you need low-light capability, it has fantastic high ISO performance and the quiet mode is truly quiet.

If I don't need my D800, I will usually pick the D7000 over the D300, unless I'm shooting an outdoor sporting event.

I guess you could say I like nature shots the best. I graduated from NYIP last September before that a few weddings which I really have little interests in. What nature shots I have done have been very well. I just purchased a 32gb memory card and my clarity real improved. I shot with a Tamron 18x270mm which has been an awsome lens. I will take a look on ebay at the D7000, thanks for the info.

The D300s replaced the D300 some time ago and has video capabilities. If you are used to the D200, you may prefer the D300s which has a very similar layout of buttons for functions and operations as the D200. I have a D200 for backup and a D300s and found the additional functions and the picture quality better with the D300s. Don't know wheter you are looking for new or used but the 300 series has the same rugged characteristics as the D200. The layout in the D7000 is a little different and the feel of the camera is different.

I have a used D300 listed in the classified section. As you see there is a number of options. If you decide on the D300 you might want to take a look, It will be there until Thursday, after that I will list it on Ebay.

I have had many Nikons. D70, D200, D300, D700, and D4. Presently I have the 300, 700 and 4. In my opinion, your best bet would be to look for a used with warranty or refurbished D700. That is where you will see the most dramatic improvement in build and performance. You should be able to get one for less than $1500, and that would allow you to purchase an extended warranty. Check the usual places, B&H, Adorama, etc.

Great advice! Same set-up as the OP's current camera. Full-Frame lenses will be need to take advantage of that sensor though.
