Anyone have any suggestions on what kind of printer to get. My old Kodak has died. I use it most for printing photos. Can't spend a lot of money. Thanks.

What camera/car should I buy

Without knowing more about what you want it for it's impossible to say.

A4
A3+
DVD/CD printing
Wireless or not
Just at home or transportable
Laser/inkjet/dyesub

I have four all for different jobs

Come on JR1 you complicate that which is not complicated and by your lack of observation and assumption confuse...

Kodak... most are 8x10 and not sophisticated as tnguy said "I can't spend much money" type printers. So we know an inexpensive printer and where do you get a color laser or dye sublimation printer cheap...

tnguy... Epson makes a number of all in one units... I have used one for 3.5 years does great photos.. NX-305.. old.. and just picked up a second set of tanks for it for $25 on EBay. I have used CIS, Continuous Ink Supply, and calculated in one forum that it has saved $3000 in ink for the 3+ years. 100 ml of ink for each color will run about $30 a set of 4. In contrast, a set of OEM carts will cost $55/set. What ever you get make sure it has a CIS available for it. My NX-305 printer cost me only $25 "open box".

Epson has a good reputation, look up CIS in UHH search and how to clean them is discussed.. easy with rubbing alcohol... problem typical of ink jet not used for a month.

Have fun, paper your bathroom wall with your prints.. enjoy.

Think

A4 and A3 printers cost little these days, a cheap printer is what, 100-150, so asking if they want DVD printing included £85 is a sensible question they may NOT have considered

Yep, I do think,,,, and your point on A3-4 printers is well taken.. tnguy... For your information: A3 is for 11 x 17" paper and A4 is for 8.5 x 11" letter-size paper.

tnguy, note, letter size photo paper is often low cost and on 2for1 sales at office supply stores. Nice to have the A3 capability.. for that I have an Epson stylus 825 6 color.. but most of my work is with 8x10s. Michael's Crafts sells 8x10 wood stretched canvas for 10/$20 and gives 40% off coupons!! 8x10 on canvas backs looks first class and is great as a gift.

I have always used Epson, have 2200 and a R 340 that I have had for years and they won't quit and the output is great. Have only used their papers and ink.

Yes, my 825 sits unused with a CIS in a box,, just as soon as the NX-305 poops out,,, and I may go before it does,,, and it keeps on tickin' as the old TimeX watch ads said. Tough machines indeed.

With a CIS for the R340 you will save a LOT of $$ and the quality is very good... UV stabilized... and how much UV do you have in your living room.. Ozone perhaps... and Mercaptans, Indol, and Scatol if you eat beans.

The CIS filled with 100ml each of ink costs $29!! how does that compare to a full set of carts. I use most any paper... Kodak, Canon, Epson various weights... all look good... paper weight makes a difference so you waste a little to know what to set.

To me as to you ibrandt79, Epson is king. Years ago I bought a refurb and the chip was for one printer and the body for another,,, Epson based on the inquirery sent me a factory new printer and a set of refil carts, no charge. Had a HP and it died even after all that effort to get the drivers to work!! Epson never a problem... But probably all brands are good.. even HP.

Thanks for the reply and have always wanted to look into a CIS.
Epson is the boss. Actually my last two small printers did not quit, gave them to my kids. My 2200 is as good as the day I got it. Thanks for the link will check it out.

I have used my Epson R1900 with a CIS for years, gives me all paper sizes up to A3 plus, the ability to use Roll paper and its much much cheaper than having to buy Epson ink cartridges.

Sure, there are occasional pluging, but rubbing alcohol and a syringe takes care of that.. rare indeed, usually an ooops haven't printed for a month and things got dry.

Some times the printer does not recognize the cart, do the change ink routine and just lift out and put back in and there it is, Epson thinks it is a new cart. I have run out of ink in a cart,, my fault,,, just do the change cart thing and lift the CIS up and it fills all the carts. Put back in and ready to go. Easy.

For my NX-305 I had to notch the case for the tubes. Easy. I have no reservations recommending CIS.

DougS in another forum (search) calculated CIS = $160/gal vs $5000/gal in carts... wow

Tnguy, mainly we need you price range and ultimate uses, since it's possible your uses can't be filled within your price range. SS

I am after reading this excerpt in favor of getting a pigment base Epson... Why, well because my life time projection using that pigment ink is 200 years and dye only 98 years... well if I stay well, I would love to live 200 years life time they talk about. What? Oh! a lady friend just informed me it has nothing to do with MY life time!!! Rather it is the image life time. OK I will stick with my dye, it is brighter, more vibrant!!

To quote "There are two basic types of inkjet printers available - dye based, and pigment based. While pigments have historically had the reputation of longer print life, dye inks have had the advantage of producing more vibrant colors. These differences are not as obvious as they once were though, with dyes making great strides in longevity, as well as the types of media they can print on. In the case of the Artisan 1430, Epson is claiming up to 200 years in storage, and 98 years on display - rivaling pigment based systems for durability."
