Something strange happening

With camera on tripod and I focus on a certain spot and continue to hold the shutter release the focus spot drifts down, it's a 100x400L lens,I put a level on the lens and it is not moving and can hear the lens(or something) making noise like it's still trying to focus,Is the normal,Also using a remote shutter release cord,I hope ya'll can understand all of this.7D.

So it's the focus spot in the viewfinder that is drifting down? Is it a steady drop from center to bottom?

Seems like it drifted down below the bottom and solved the problem for the guy finally!!!

I knew about turning off IS, but I never heard of the spot drifting down.

Neither have I Jerry. I think he had it on all points and it selected a lower point.

I think it was just an "un-sturdy" viewfinder (created by the IS), that made it look like the focus spots were moving. That also explains the sound he was hearing.

Turn off IS if you mount it on a tripod, or a monopod, the noise you hear may be the IS trying to obtain focus.
