I visited a private garden in town that's open to the public. Mindset was flowers, so I was not at all prepared to be greeted by this cutie!
In hindsight, I could have used the SLR dangling from my neck, with 250mm, as these are all heavily cropped. Couldn't zoom in too close with the SX50 'cause she kept zipping out of the viewfinder!
These are the settings the camera was on when I grabbed it. Next time will be more prepared :)
Canon SX50 with optical zoom, heavily cropped images.
ISO 250
f/5.6
1/320 sec and 1/400 sec
Heavily cropped and pp done with Picasa.
pretty dam good if you ask me
Very nice! Love #3! I've yet to get a hummingbird with our SX50, but hoping...

Great job with these Linda. That camera has paid for itself many times over with all of the wonderful shots you've been getting.

Those are all very good shots, they are so very fast!!!
Nice! They are still very clear for being heavily cropped!
Thank you all so much! I really appreciate your kind words. This has certainly been a summer of photographic "firsts." And yes, I have already gotten my money's worth - and more - with this camera :)

Good ones, Linda. I often see posts of hummers. I don't think I've ever seen one but I presume we have them over here. :D
Great shots Linda considering they are flowers and not a feeder. Feeder make for predictable movements. Flowers is a more natural setting. Very well done.
Thanks for posting
Steve
Hey Caro, I don't see any remarks from you, but thanks for visiting anyway :)
Earl and Steve: thanks so much. I am going to Google hummingbirds in Australia right now :)
Steve - I guess I like to jump right into a more challenging situation - ha. Actually, if I knew of a nearby feeder, I'd probably stake it out :)
Great shots, Linda. Third one's a winner! Good job catching the little guy!
