Several years ago, I bought the Tamron 18-270 to take with me on a cruise. I could not get a sharp image on my D300,
immediately exchanged it for a Sigma 18-200 and had no problem after that> I now have two of the Sigma, but will be selling one when I sell my D300.

I have a D7100 with a couple of kit lenses from an older Nikon. The lens I use most is a Sigma 18-250, which I chose for it's micro ability. It gets a bit heavy if you're packing it around all day but I like it. I don't like carting around a bunch of stuff so it is a good compromise for me.

I own D7100 upgraded from D90,now is time to look for new lens.I have DX 40mm Macro Nikon and using also from my D800 FX Nikon lens 28-300 and 105/2.8 macro ,i need another lens DX preferably for travel which should be Mega zoom as they call them.

I purchased and trying now (?miracle lens?) Tamron 18 -270 which was recommended in DPreview, and you can't really believe all what they write.I wonder sometimes who writes those reviews. This lens is bad, brand new and it is not sharp almost in any positions and aperture. 6x4 look decent but enlargements over 50% is blurry and never sharp, i just couldn't find anything positive about it so far but low weight.
I have Google those two - 18-200 or 18 -300mm Nikon as they have same parameters (300 little bit longer)
Ken Rockwell call 18-200 awesome!
DPreview didn't help me decide, and recently there is a lot of Nikon18-200mm on sale and used, makes you wonder, is it because 18-300 is new and people upgrading from 18-200 them?
Has anybody have experience with any of those zooms? Please help.

Try this site for a good comparison based on "numbers" rather than opinion. You also have to remember that they produce thousands of lenses a year, and they are not all identical. Variations in manufacturing can produce sharp of less sharp images. Have you tried doing a focus adjustment of your camera for that lens?

I have both the 18- 200 and the 18-300mm and use them on my D7100 and the 18-300mm is my favorite. It's the best travel lens I have ever used.

Nice shot. The color in the flowers makes a big difference.

After much advice, discussion and trials I plumbed for the Nikon 18-300 and love it. It's on my camera 80% f the time. I made this purchase primarily because I will stick to DX and like the wide bottom end. However, can't help agree with MT Shooters logic on the 28-300 as you already own one. If you can forego the wide bottom end you have your lens of choice I feel.

If your wife will be using the 28-300 on the D800 I'd get the 18-300 for your DX Camera. I love it on my D300. I bought it at full price, was a bit upset when Nikon dropped the price $300 six months later- I'm not sure if this was an inventory adjustment or a permanent drop. Also, look for it as a Nikon Factory Refurb to
save a bit and know it has been factory tested to specs. Your
7100 is lighter than myD300, so that should balance out the weight difference of the lens.

I also have a Tamron 18-270 on my Nikon D5000. I love this lens. I use it for shooting soccer games, plays in low light theaters, lighthouses, parties, water sports, and vacation pictures. I had one of these lenses on my Minolta 35 mm film camera for many years. I no longer shoot film. Anyway, there must be something wrong with your particular lens. Take it back to the dealer or send it in to Tamron. My Nikon lenses stay in the drawer - the Tamron stays on the camera.

I use the 18-300 DX lens on my D7100 (80% of the time)
Very good lens, well suited for the D7100

Thank you all for your help, I've buy 18-200,and so far i like the weight, since 18-300 is the heaviest Nikon super zoom, this look like affordable traveling size.

Great shot - everything sharp and in focus - nothing beats a good lens used by a good photographer.
