Help with web search, please.
I think I heard it said once that one can use an "image" for a search. For instance, if I have a photo of an old race car, can I use that image to search the web to identify it?? If so, how?
Thank you.
Here I thought I had heard everything, but I've never heard that ! It's an interesting concept though........I think I'll try it........as soon as I figure out how..........
Thank you. I've saved these links to my "favorites" bar.

TinEye
TinEye is a reverse image search engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions.
TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks. It is free to use for non-commercial searching.
TinEye regularly crawls the web for new images, and we also accept contributions of complete online image collections. To date, TinEye has indexed 3,216,179,551 images from the web to help you find what you're looking for. For more information, please see our FAQ, and for some actual TinEye search examples, check out our Cool Searches page.

Can you post the photo?
I was going to look for car enthusiasts here, but there are just too many for me to identify. They were taken at a vintage grand prix, and there are cars dating back to the early thirties. I got a "program" for the race, but for some reason all are not listed. Under many vehicles, the # is listed as N/A. They may not of submitted the info, or didn't make the deadline for the program to go to print. For the ones in the program with numbers, it's easy. It gives me the year, make , model, and even the driver.
Thanks anyhow.
P.S. If you just want to see the cars, I'll be posting some here soon under the title "Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix".

With Google it is very simple process, click on images across the top of the page you will be able to attach your picture and simply go from there. You will have to play a bit of detective and look for the information but it can be done.

You more likely heard that you can click on "Images" at the top of the Google Search page and search for a certain kind of image. If you have ANY descriptive words about the race car, even just the year, what kind of racing, brand or size of engine, driver, paintings or decals on the side, etc., go to Images and type two or three of those words in the search box. You will get numerous pages of small thumbnail pictures. Try adding another word to filter further. Then another. The number of pages will reduce each time. When you have no more words to search with, you just have to start going through the photos until you find one or more that are similar to yours.
When you click on one of the photos, Google will let you go to the original website page where the photo was collected from to read about the car in that photo.

Thank you, but I did hear
using images to search. It was a surprise to me as well. If you read some of the posts above, they explain how.
Assuming your browser has tabs, open one tab with Google Images in it, should be a mostly blank page with a search box in the center.
In another tab have open the page with the image you are wanting to do a search on.
Click on the image and hold the mouse button down.
Drag the cursor up to the other tab (Google) still holding the button down.
That tab will then become the active tab with the Google Image search box in the middle.
Still holding down on the mouse button, drag the cursor into the search box.
Release button and Google will the search for any other copies of and similar images.
this is how you use images to search...
