I don't see where you focused. Were you closer than the lens would focus? Did you use the auto focus or the manual focus?
Crepe myrtles are difficult to photograph close up because of their depth and the closer you get the more shallow your cameras depth of field. Crepe myrtles are one of the most stunning tree blossoms around. I have never been able to get what I want to from a picture of crepes but focus stacking comes to mind. Keep experimenting, keep trying show us what it is you see in the crepes.

Damage to the bloom was done by the rain. Hopefully the focus is better.
