When I left UH more than a year ago I did not expect to return. What I did not count on is a bunch of nice people missng my vision of Alaska.During the past year I have been getting many requests to return to UH and I just got tired of saying "no" over and over again. So here I am, a year older and not necessarily wiser.I intend to create at least one topic with minimum of three photos per week and to see how things go this time.In the past some of my topics disappeared from the radar almost immediately so if you do not want to miss any Alaska photos be sure to put me on your "buddy list" and check once a week my topics.
For those of you who joined UH after my departure: you can look up my previous topics by clicking on my nick and "topics created".There are 187 previous topics with over 1000 photos burried there.Thank you all who missed me, lets go to see a few Bald eagles..

alaskan: As a newer member, I cannot say I have seen your work before. But from what I see here, I will be going on a hunt to see some of the older posts. Bald Eagles make a great subject anywhere you can see one. We have lots of them here on the east coast as well.

Thanks for this great set and welcome back.

Steve

Camera settings.....I am kind of a renegade as photography goes who does not subscribe to any photography myths. My approach to photography is purely practical and as simple as I can make it.I believe it does not matter what equipment, setting etc. is used, only the final image is what counts. Not how you got there.I NEVER use manual exposure setting or RAW etc.,most of my photos are taken on auto "P" setting, bracketed. If a control of the depth of field is important then I use auto "AV" or "TV" if a certain shutter speed is what`s needed. That is all,no secrets.I NEVER look at metadata and only do minimum PP.
90% of my previously posted images were taken with pocket point-and-shoot cameras or with obsolete bridge cameras. These eagles were done with a DSLR because point-and-shoot and bridge cameras do not focus well and fast enough in very low light situation.Thanks.

I do not know if you have been around Bald eagles, they are very suspicious of photographers. It took me years of heavy effort to get a first decent eagle photo.Thanks.

Thank you. This time I intend to show even some real/ugly Alaska now and then (not the sanitized Alaska people see from criuse ships).

So excited to see you back! One thing I have found, and you may already know this, if you post your photos during peak times of the forum - early in the morning, or say later evening after supper, more folks will see them in the feed. If they are viewed often enough and commented on as well, they stay listed on the first pages of 'Active Topics.' I will definitely start looking for your work again. Incredible photos ~
