I could use a little advice. I am thinking of purchasing a Canon EOS 5D Mark III - Body Only. Ryther has it for $2289. I know next to nothing about Ryther. Has anyone done any business with them? Any opinions on the camera?

I do not have any personal experience with Ryther, all I know, I learned here, it does not sound like the best place to do business with.

Well I took the advice and Googled it. You can indeed get that camera at Ryther for that price. Maybe! Some have and were happy. Bottom line is there is a great deal of up selling, at high prices. Most likely gray market with no warranty unless you upgrade. For that price range I want my damn camera. As ordered. No upsell. Yes to the warranty. And don't give me a headache.

Where is an excellent, safe place to purchase with no shades of gray? I made a purchase from B&H but it was only for paper.

You may want to look at Google Shopping. Same price, better reviews.

Adorama, B&H, Beach, Focus, Cameta, Calumet are all stores I have had good experiences with. Besides shooting, I order equipment for several departments at a university, so they need to be trusted vendors. As noted in another post, if the prices on the cameras seem really good, compare prices on battery, memory card and other accessories. If those are unreasonably high, run, don't walk to one of the above-mentioned stores.

Quick tip for newbies....Topic titles should contain what the specific subject matter is about. 99% of the topics here are asking for advice or help. This thread's title should have the words " Canon 5D mkIII" and "Ryther" in it.

Excellent camera, by the way. I would have one myself if I weren't a Nikon guy.

frankly I would stick to B&H, Adorama. KEH, Amazon, Dell might even sell them

Read the description, its an IMPORT model and has a STORE WARRANTY of unspecified term. It will likely also come without a battery, charger or strap, much less any discs, manuals or paperwork. These companies take stuff out of the box and sell it separate to make a bigger profit. When you see "body only" you have to ASK QUESTIONS. Most of the time these import deals like that are also a kit combo that has had the lens removed to sell separately, also to increase the net profit. They are almost NEVER any kind of real "deal" at all. Good luck if you decide to try one, but for me that's too much money to risk. Oh, and don't forget the 20% "restocking" fee when you return that camera that has likely been sold and returned 2 or 3 times by others.

Great info.... Should be "required" reading for online shoppers.

I have to wonder why they are allowed to continue selling! Even the BBB doesn't come right out and say stay away. What they did say is that they have too many complaints registered for the amount of time they have been in business. I think it was 33. Companies, like this one, make it difficult to do business on the Internet.

STAY AWAY Bait & Switch UPSALE on accessories and then will backorder if you do not buy the accessories and lenses they push!

I'm in Jersey and I buy from B&H they've helped me when I've had equipment problems. When you buy from them there is no sales tax. You pay sales tax from Adorama. If you live neay NYC may I recommed going to their event space.
