I am going crazy trying to get my software right so I can hook up my d800 to do the transfer. First I loaded the new firmware on my camera. Great. Then I tried doing the new version of viewnx2 and even though it said it was updated to the new version when I checked, it was not. I totally uninstalled everything. Then I tried to install the transfer piece. It says it is is installed and it pops up when the camera turns on but will not find the pictures to transfer. It will take days to get an answer from nikon so any help out there would be appreciated.

Never mind. I got it. Wrong slot on the camera was selected.

Drink one for me - suggest you use a card reader, not the camera to download photos to computer. Just a thought.

Still having issues and could use that drink. I use photoshop elements and now it won't open raw files. Getting tired of this. Does lightroom open raw files from a d800?

I used to use a card reader until one day the reader went bad and when it lost connection for a second it also lost some of my favorite shots. I never seem to find one that last very long and didn't want to take that chance again. What problems are there with the cable?

Yes, D800 RAW files open perfectly in LR 5.

I have the same problem with Elements 11 not opening my D-800 raw files. I believe I have done everything to update Elements 11. but still no cigar.

Make sure you have the latest version of Camera Raw that supports the D800 at least 6.7

Go to the USB menu, and try selecting the transfer protocol MSC, MTP or PTP

I, probably like others here, will recommend an external usb card reader... no software, no hassle - simple to use. I've been using readers for about a decade and have never had any problem or lost a single shot or video.

It also saves you from possible damage to the camera, if something goes wrong while downloading. Any computer mishap/failure while downloading can have catastrophic consequences on your camera.
