So which crop effect do you think is more appealing to the eye? (Any other critique is welcome, I have my helmet and flak vest on :D )
I titled it "Multi Media" 'cuz he's playing music...in front of an art gallery...using digital background musicians...while I photograph him......
#1 is nearly full width (cropped out a lamp pole), and full height.
#2 is narrowed crop and I cropped out the gallery lights at top, and some sidewalk foreground.
Wide Crop, Full Height
Narrow Crop, Limited Height
#2 gives better detail to the main subject. Anyway to calm down the background brightness alittle though?
Good caption, too.

Yeah the original is less bright....I've got a lot of leeway with levels to play with....thanks.
After emrobs comments....Any difference?
first posting (pre critique)
light adjusted (post critique)
Your main subject is still a little dark but your crop is good.
I like the cropping in #2 much better than #1.
You're not really losing anything by cropping out the top of the photo and I do like that crop better. It may just be me but it looks like you're starting to get a good amount of noise on the photo, especially noticable on the mans jeans....
I would agree that it's a little dark...and the props seem a little "set up" and less "casual" (for example, the dollar bill, and beer bottle. I'd have some change and a couple bucks on the floor, and maybe an empty bottle on it's side for a "I don't care" look, if that's what you're going for. Over all, it's a good photo, love the colors. I'd say the subject should cock his head to the side a little bit to create a little more motion to the piece. Good crop and props! :) Kudos. ps: I like the pre-critiqued because it shows more grain in the wood of the guitar. However, I do like in the post photo that you can see the one painting on the wall more. So, I'd say I like the tint vs. shading in pre critique, but enjoy the cropping of post critique. I really like that you can see the wood of the guitar...in fact, I would have worn gray...or a bland green, and changed the "thank you" jar from red to a bland color as well to make the bills pop. It would also make the guitar pop more as well, even though red and green compliment each other, I'd still make it bland maybe a grayish red, or dusty red, but not pink, if it were me. But I am not, so I enjoy learning from YOU! Thanks for sharing!
I would prefer to see a little more clear area on the right side of the picture where he is facing.

Thanks...in the original there's alot of blank wall there. i dont know why this one just isnt speaking to me. It happens every so often.
I loaded the thumbnail in the thingy and raised the "Shadow" doohickey.
It brought out the skin color and the blue jeans.
The color in the wall (even the dark side) and enhanced the grout lines.
Put the luster back in the wooden instrument.
You should try that on the original file :-)
