Another Ryther Comment

We've had a lot of questions and unfavorable comments about Ryther Camera, so I've been looking at their site occasionally. With Trey Ratcliff announcing his move to the Sony NEX-7, I checked that out on Ryther's site.

They are selling the "Body Only US Retail Kit" for $1,099, about the same as other stores. Under "What's in the Package," they list the body, battery, charger, strap, etc., and, "1 Year USA Manufacture (misspelled) Warranty."

Right below that, they offer "NEX-7 Body Only" for $899, about $200 lower than other stores. Looking at the "What's in the Box (not Package)," they list the standard bits plus the 18-55mm lens. So, is the lens included or not? Also, "1-Year Limited Warranty." Sounds like grey market.

Below that, they list another NEX-7 with 18-200mm at the "Regular Low Price: $1.00. Savings: $1,678. Our Price: $1,679." Total nonsense.

Regardless of pricing, their descriptions are not accurate or consistent. They lead you on with a low price and have "typographical errors" so that when you try to order an item, everything changes. By examining several products on their site, I have found this to be typical of their listings.

As our members have said so often, buy from reliable sources; if the price seems too good to be true - it is.

The other day they listed a Canon 7D body only for $899, again well below everyone else. It did look suspicious. It does look like a pattern.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at one of their business meetings.

Well they do claim to have a retail store in New Jersey so that right there ought to tell you something.

If you've seen their video, it looks like a great place to shop. I wonder what happens if you try to get one of their advertised low prices in person - no waiting two days or getting phone calls from them. As much as I'd like to find out, I'll let someone else try it. :D

simply too many honest ethical houses out there to consider any shop with the slightest question of ethics.

Hope folks rely on the known reputable sources.
Save themselves a ton of grief and money

I bought something from them a while back. Really not sure what it was now. BUT, I do remember that I decided NOT to use them again. DJT

That it! It's a question of ethics.
