I am try to decide which one D800 or D7100 yes i realize dx and fx and the price factor but it seem like some problems with the D800 and I don't want any issues at first with a new camera. Nikon is coming out with a D400 this fall I wonder if this is the corrected replacement, gosh it seems like Nikon has nothing to do but come out with new cameras every year and make us working photographers spend, ya I know each new camera that come out every year has someing better. My Hasselblads lasted over 20 years doing weddings and etc.never had to replace it with another one. not like today.PS I am a Nikon man. Thanks

Looks like you got caught in the web of marketing schemes lol. ALL camera manufacturers come out with new models often not just Nikon. Do yourself a favor and buy what you NEED and not what you just wants....you will chase after the wind and never be satisfied chasing the newest camera technology. :)

I have two D800's and neither one has any issues. Are you thinking a out the oil spots on the D 600 sensor?

Looking very closely at the D7100. Lots of good feedback from ppl I have talked to. On .the 7100 there is also a "Bluetooth" so that you can send pix back to a computer right away. Have no idea how that works but.......Working Nikons since 1972 and have never looked back. My Dad was Leica and Hasseys, said if I wanted a REAL camera....LEICA. Oh welllllllll

Hi Lenny,
Yes I agree we are in a fast moving marketing world, I have a D7000 and love it, it is my favorite . Then Nikon comes out with a D7100, now someone says a D7200 is in the works.. I would also like to buy a D800 this fall. Just waiting on pricing. Both 7100 and 800 are fabulous cameras, I like my 7000 because I travel everywhere , and feel if something happens it won't loose 2800 bucks down the drain.for everyday use you won't go wrong with the D7100, if you just hit the lottery , heck by both!
Good advice from another Lenny.

It really depends on your needs. What do you shoot? What do you output -- prints (what size?), web pages, anything else? Which Nikon lenses do you already own (if any)? If you shoot landscapes and print large, for example, the extra pixels of the D800 might do you well. On the other hand, if you like wildlife and can't afford the exotic telephotos (or don't want to lug them around),the D7100 will give you more pixels on the subject with shorter (and smaller and lighter and cheaper) lenses. There are more differences than just these examples, so first figure out just what your needs are. Cameras are tools and you're the only one who knows what jobs you want to do with them. The D400 (if it ever gets here) will be the D300s replacement -- the high end DX body. When it does come out, I'll be deciding between the D400 and D7100 -- I'll have to see if the extra money for the D400 will do enough for me to be worthwhile.

I have a D600 and it is a fantastic camera. I do have an early model and did have oil spots after about 1,500 shots, but Nikon took care of this under warranty and it has been perfect since. My understanding is that the problem has been corrected in the later models. I was able to borrow a friends D800E, also a great piece, but considerably more $ than a D600. I did some side by side comparisons and really had to enlarge to 3:1 before I could see the extra resolution of the D800E making a difference. I've made 20 x 30" prints from my D600 and they are very sharp, free of noise and have good color rendition. I personally like the controls and lighter weight of the D600 - the U1 and U2 programmable buttons are very useful as I like to shoot bracketed as well as single shot photos and a quick flick of the dial puts me into my bracketing setups. The D800E is also fantastic and you should try handling both to see which works best. A word of warning, the D600 full res files are big, the D800's are HUGE, and, if you don't have an up to date computer with plenty of RAM and a good video card, you may have to upgrade - especially with the D800. You really cant go wrong with either camera.

I've not had the chance to play with the D7100, but the it looks to be a crop sensor version of the D600 with similar controls. If I ever decide to part with my D90 backup, this will be a serious contender!

Hi I have my eye on the D600 if I can get a few more bucks I will buy it, but leaning toward the D7100 I like the FX Format on the D600,I hope the price will drop this fall maybe I should wait another few months?
