I'm anticipating a purchase (within the next week) for one of the 70-200mm 2.8f from either manufacturer of this lens......I've read review after review and was coming here for one final opinion.

Perfect! Here's a three part comparison between Nikon, Sigma, and Tamron 70-200mm.

DxO Optics has been testing and comparing lens almost for ever.
Check this one out.

You'll be surprised at the results.
WOW! Thanks for the link.
So Tamron got a better score than Nikon or Sigma. Yes, that is a surprise.
The scores vary as you select different cameras. I'm surprised that DxO didn't have use the same camera for each lens. I switched them all to D600, and the finishing order was the same.

It was not the Tamron Macro 70-200. It was the Tamron SP 70-200MM F/2.8 DI VC USD TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS
(MODEL A009)

Still, it got a better score than the Nikon.
Have a Sigma 70-200 f-2.8 Nary a problem. Only issue is it seems a little soft if not on a monopod at least. Or it could be I am getting OLD and shakey myself :-)
I'm also planning to get a 70-200 f2.8 soon.
How about the Canon lens against the Tamron and Sigma, what do you think?

According to DxO's testing, Tamron is the winner. Canon has the "name," white coating, and high price, but Tamron has the high score.
Take a look at digitavrev.com and thatnikonguy.com before you spend big bucks and see what they have to say.

Hi Kennyg, I have a Canon T3i and use all Sigma pro-glass on it, the 24-70, 70-200, 105, and a wide angle 10-20. I really enjoy my Sigma Glass. I could not afford the Canon L glass or Tamrons cost so I went with Sigma and really happy with them.

There is a test of these three lenses against each other on "the digital picture". Canon came out the clear winner.

I'm not sure what the price is for the Sigma ... I have a 450D and chose to spend a little under $800 for the Tamron SP f/2.8 70-200 instead of over $2000 for the Canon L Series, and I believe the Nikon used in the Youtube (above) was somewhere around $2400. I love the Tamron lens, it is my choice for headshots and for small, outdoor arena rodeo where I like the open aperture and quick shutter combo in relatively low light. I'm sure I'll even love it more when I go to a 6D or 7D (undecided yet). I know MT Shooter here uses Sigma, and he is very happy with them. I believe the Sigma is less than Canon or Nikon, I don't know if it is less than Tamron. Tamron lens are also used in military high precision surveillance work (like in UAV's) so they do make a pretty good glass. Just more thought for the process ....

HI, I just looked up the sigma & the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 with af image stabilization the sigma is 1249 & tamron is 1499 for the Canon mount. nice difference in price, and from what I have reviewed in comparison videos they all won, canon was not the only one that was good. It just boils down to ones preference. I love Canon L glass but can't afford it, so with that said to each his own.
I purchased my Tamron SP 70-200 from Beach Camera in Florida: VC was not important for me as I don't plan on hand-holding the lens, even though Tamron is the lightest in the bunch. I nearly always use a monopod, sometimes a tripod, so the VC would be turned off anyway. The lens without VC is $769 vs $1499 for the VC model. Haven't looked for a refurb or demo model. Headshot sessions are 2-3 hours in length, and so are rodeo's, and even the lightweight Tamron makes my old arms a wee tired, so the monopod solves the problem and saves me $$$$.
