I am a senior citizen. I am so fortunate Our Lord let me be born here. Far from wealthy, it is sad to think they feel their remarks about America are sensible. I am proud of our country and it sounds sarcastic but I don't care what they think. We have reached out and sent our best to help so many countries, in my life time from WWII to now. I am so free to vote and love my family and I am so sorry that you in the UK agreed with them. My friends have told me about the type of news they hear and it's definitely not your everyday, normal American life. We give so much, we owe no excuse to the rest of the world on what we do.

I do not believe that it has anything to do with nationality; it's all about the people and how they were brought up!

That is correct but I felt the writer was judging America as a whole country. And there are many ungrateful countries out there. I just want our budget balanced and to support our servicemen. Also my friends in Europe tell me the most unbelievable stories about the USA. While our president is not the most popular, we elected him and did it again. In a budget crisis and not being repaired is caused by the over 500 men and women, educated and often acting like children . I think it's difficult for me to continue to be upset in the lack of cooperation in putting the USA first, and listening to each other.

The comments re the government are correct but that is what people see when they comment about other countries. Even during the darkest hours of a the dreadful regime of the Nazi period there was an underground against them but those brave people such as Marie Scholl, a young girl who sacrificed her life, are rarely heard of.As for foreign aid, it is not the governmentwho helps, it is the people who dig into their pockets to help. The govt only sends "aid" to those gocernments who will permit us to exploit the people. I speak out of experience because I lived in Brazil in the 60's when a newly elected socialist president was toppled by the CIA and was replaced by a murderous junta of military thugz, just as we did in Chile, Argentina, Panama and Paraguay to mention a few. But I believe that our reputation went downhill when we "elected" an ignorant buffoon such as Bush who thrust into wars, huge deficits and so on. Iknow Obama made things worse, but this is not a discussion about politicians; it is about our sorry descent into mediocrity and lack of civility between our selves.

And did you do or say anything that would convince them other wise or did you agree with them and let them think what they wanted to think. Maybe, just maybe they were speaking about you. How sad.

Why then, do so many from all over the world want to come to live in the US ?

Why then, has there been a major debate on Capital Hill about how to control or limit those who want to come to the US to live ?

Why then, have so many countries from all over the world not refused the US aid and assistance sent on the US dime with no expectation of reimbursement after a major natural or man-made disaster in their country ? This is not a new phenomenon.

Why then, do so many countries want favored nation status from the US so they can export goods and services to the US ?

Well, look at what we have let ourselves become.

It is sad but I think if a powerful force from outside our planet sat in orbit for a while and watched what is happening on our planet they would decide that this so-called civilization needs to be destroyed.
Considering what we could accomplish and are not I tend to agree. God pity us.

Back in the dark days of 1960s-1970s, there was a saying as it relates to the US:

"Love it or leave it"

NO ONE IS MAKING ANYONE STAY IN THIS EVIL COUNTRY.

YOU or anyone dissatsified with your or their lot here in the US are welcome to leave it for a better life elsewhere in Europe or South America, if that's your desire.

If you already live outside of the US, you do not have to come.

US tourism or US residency will be able to survive without the downtrodden more highly educated masses that you are apparently referring to.

A very good point. However, there is a follow up question to that. Why do so many, who do get to come here, want to change this country to the third world cesspool similar to what they wanted to leave?
