Delivered today was a new (to me) Sigma 10-20mm lens. At first, I thought, "now what?" Having my mind go blank as to exactly why I ordered it, I just went out and started shooting. Oh, My!!! How did I or does anyone shoot without a lens like this??? This makes it very hard to defer to one of my other lenses! Anyone have this same emotion after buying their first?!

That would be too much distortion for me. The widest I ever went was 28mm.
I have a Tamron 10 24mm and could not believe how much sharper it is over my kit lens. have it on a 60D and very happy with it.
Enjoy it and post some pic

No or very little distortion! Posted first pic to Facebook and many likes, including a friend that has written/produced and filmed many non-pron movies with a DSLR! It is quite awesome!

tried posting my first and second pic that I took with the lens. having trouble. any tips?
I have the same lens and love it!
Distortion gets serious when you tip it up or down too much. As long as you take more or less level shots, then crop to move the horizon when necessary, the images are rewarding. And perspective distortion, when it is an issue, can be adjusted nicely in PS or Lightroom.
You really shouldn't base the quality of any photo posted n Facebook, I get tired of hearing this has 100 likes and this has 75 likes. It's a meaningless system .
Start using the lens level on a crop camera it's roughly 16 to 28mm lens, good for those landscape sunrise and sunset photos. It does take a little getting used to. Try getting in close to your foreground that might help keep things in perspective
I know exactly what you mean.
The first time I shot with an ultra-wide it was a real relevation.
And it was the Sigma 10-20mm.
A voice inside my head yelled "Yes, this is what its about!"
The ultrawide is still my most used lens.

I have that same lens and use it on my D7000, it is fast becoming one of my most used lenses. There is a bit of a learning curve, but that's half the fun. Holding it level reduces distortion. It does truly open new doors, have fun!

Show us some pics! I just ordered a 10-18mm for my Sony NEX-7 & I'm chomping at the bit to get some shots with it.
Waiting for the same lens for my D7000. Recently won an eBay auction. Can't wait to try it out.
There is no one lens that is good for everything. The super wide zooms that have come out are not the answer. There is a lens for every photo, and in the end, a fixed focal length lens will give the best quality. Read up on lenses, and the differences between all of them. All this depends on what type of a photographer you are. If you are just a point and shoot, then you want it all automatic so all you have to do is push the button. If you are serious, then you will learn what lens is best, and also all the features on your camera.

I got a 10-17mm fisheye a few months ago and fell in love with it as soon as I first used it. Yesterday, I got my new 8mm. Holy crap! I know just how you feel. I am going out today to shoot with that one. Will post some results soon. Have fun with it, I am with mine.
