Lightroom 5 Book Opinion

I just ordered Lightroom 5. I know about the videos on YouTube and Adobe TV but having a reference book handy is convenient for me.

I am considering getting either Adobe’s Classroom in a Book OR Scott Kelby’s Lightroom 5 Book.

Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks :!:

Hi seeSAW!

I bought Scott Kelby’s Lightroom 5 Book (kindle addition) and thought the chapter on the develop module was worth the price alone.

Its written in a straight forward easy to understand method.

I am looking forward to going through the rest of the book. Scott Kelby's book has shown me several little aspects I was unaware of.

Hope this helps!

I have Kelby's Lightroom 4 book and like it. I haven't tried other Lightroom books. I don't think it as good a Kelby's Elements book...but then I was at a different place with these programs when I got his Elements book. He really saved me with that one.

I might like some others now. The difference is that Kelby takes you through getting results. The others seek to describe all the features. I was so overwhelmed with Elements that describing all the features didn't help me. I needed Kelby's step by step.

Now that I know what these programs do and how to do most things one oriented on how to use each feature might work better for me.

If you don't mind my muddling the waters a bit: so far do you find the upgrade worth it? What do you like best?

I haven’t received LR 5 yet. I’m currently using LR 3 and have seen LR 4 in action so upgrading to 5 is a no brainer for me.

If you are considering upgrading to LR 5 you can check out some of the tutorials and/or download the trial version to help you make a decision. Just don’t change any of your “keeper” shots to 5 until you know for sure that you will upgrade.

Scott Kelby's books are pretty good. I have the Lighroom 4 one. If I need additional help I go to youtube.com or Adobe's Tutorials.

Same here. I display the Kindle version on one monitor and LR on the other monitor. I cannot say enough good things about Scott Kelby's books

Hi Mikey,

I took a quick look at Matts presets (he is part of Kelby training) and I like what I was. Thanks for the recommendation. :-D
