Does anyone have an idea of whether to use
A pad or picture frame to store photos?

Bit confused, you say "store" surely DVD or hard drive to store, do you mean "display"

Depends on how you want to display them.
Digital frames can just sit there and do a slide show day-in and day-out.
If you're going to handhold the device and flip through them, then a tablet [iPad or an Android device] is the way to go.

laptop bigger capacity better capability and can handle tethering your camera too. That's the lazy man's displaying - Printing them on quality paper will never 'crash' but will burn. sell them and then you don't have any storage problems.......

For what you're going to spend on a 'mini', you could buy 2 similar size android devices. Just make sure they use Google Play, NOT Amazon's Kindle/android store.

But not inkjet prints.
Dye sublimation prints.
They'll last a whole lot longer.
