Christmas is coming

I use a Rebel T1i with (1) 15-85MM w IS, (2) 70-200MM L 4.0 w IS, and (3) 50MM 1.8. Most of my shooting is landscape, so I use the 15-85 about 95% of the time. I also have a nice tripod and ball head. I am going out west this next summer to photograph Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, Bryce Canyon, etc. My daughters are asking what I would like for Christmas, and my thoughts turn to ideas like (a) filters, and (b) shutter release cable. The only filters I have are UV for each lens. Should I get a CP filter and a ND filter for both the 15-85 and 70-200 L, or just the 15-85? Next question, is one type of cable release, manual vs remote, better than the other? I have never used a cable release before, but after reading many discussions, believe that if I am going to attempt some HDR photos, I might need one. Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

I would get the filters to fit the 15-85 (72mm) and get a step-up ring for the 70-200 (67mm).

A cable release is a really important and relatively inexpensive accessory to have.
I still haven't succomb to my wants and desires to get a RF remote, although there have been a few times I REALLY would have liked one, the cable works just fine. I also have an intervalometer, so in addition to the built-in timer, I can set the release to give me more time.

Sounds like a great trip! Bryce and Zion are simply amazing! If you do night photography, the skies South of Bryce are the darkest in the COUNTRY!

Thank you for the advice. I will look into the filters and step up ring, and give my daughters options. As for the cable release, I'll see how that fits price wise, and perhaps they can double up.

OK... Not wanting to hijack your thread, but... I'm new to digital. What is this HDR I keep hearing about? Again, apologize for the hijack, but I keep seeing this term here.

Thank You. A little more than I want to get into now, but at least I know what it is :)
